Chana masala, also known as channay masala or chole masala
or chole masala or chholay masala or Sundal masala, is a popular dish from the
Indian subcontinent, notable in Indian food and Pakistani cuisine. It’s very
popular in South Indian restaurants and widely sold as street food in most
parts of India. The main Ingredients is a variety of chick peas with onions, tomatoes.
Here we got this recipe from north Indian friends, adapted it
with some changes to Tamil taste and made it simpler. So, it’s kind of south Indian
version. Some make it as dry recipe we like it as a gravy. Its goes well with
Bhature,poori or even with fried breads. Do try this recipe we are sure that you
guys will love it.
Additional Info this is healthy food as we all know chickpeas
are considered both a vegetable and protein food, helping you hit two important
food groups at once. These nutty beans are rich in a number of important
nutrients that keep you well -- including protein, vitamins and minerals -- and
they provide fiber too. Including chickpeas in your diet may play a role in
reducing your risk of a number of chronic illnesses such as heart disease,
diabetes and cancer. But try to use the oil as less a possible.

Ingredients:
Onion 3
Tomato 1
Curry leaves (seasoning)
Coriander leaves (seasoning)
Masala powder 4 tsp (Grinded powder mixture of Red dry chili and Coriander seed)
Chana/Sundal 300gms
Mustard 1tsp
salt per taste
Vegetable oil
Methods:
Rinse and Soak Chana in enough water for 2 to 4 hrs, Chana will increase in size so add sufficient water
Cook the Chana in pressure cooker till 5 to 6 whistles and set aside
Grind the chopped onions and tomatoes in blender in rough consistency and set aside
Heat the pan with oil, splutter the mustard seed
Add Grinded onions and tomatoes, sauté well till the raw smell goes off for 10 to 15 mins
Then Add cooked Chana, salt and masala powder and stir well
Let it cook for 10mins, now and then keep stirring
Finally add curry leaf and coriander leaves before switching the stove off
You can add lemon juice (optional) for more taste.
Your chana masala is ready serve it hot with bhatura, poori or fried bread
